Alyonka Russian Restaurant Turns 6 Years Old!

When Elena opened her Boise Russian restaurant, Alyonka Russian Cuisine, in 2019, she had one goal. She wanted to bring the flavors of her childhood to the Treasure Valley and make every guest feel like family. This month, November 2025, Alyonka is celebrating six years of scratch-made food, warm hospitality, and a community that has supported us since day one.

From November 28–30, 2025, everyone who dines with us will receive a complimentary slice of Honey Cake or Royal Poppy Seed Chocolate Ganache Cake as our way of saying thank you. This celebration is about you as much as it is about us!

It also has us reminiscing about our history. đź’ź Read on to learn how this dream became a reality!

It started as a community festival

Long before this Russian restaurant opened its doors, Elena was already feeding Boise.

In 2005, she helped start what became the annual Russian Food Festival. She offered her home kitchen to community members, just as her grandmother once did in Kazakhstan, and together they made borscht, dumplings, and the comfort foods she grew up with. The festival grew so popular that lines wrapped around the block. Many of those early festival guests became our first restaurant customers in 2019.

That same homemade spirit guides everything we do at Alyonka Russian Cuisine. We still cook the food of our childhood, and we still believe in treating every guest like family.

What makes our Russian restaurant so special

Since November 2019, our Russian restaurant has stayed true to one promise: everything is made from scratch, with real ingredients, and plated with care.

Elena puts her heart into every dish, whether it’s a bowl of Pelmeni served with fresh dill or a slice of Honey Cake layered with hand whipped cream. Nothing comes from a can we never take shortcuts and every bite reflects the traditions our kitchen team grew up with.

Some of our most loved dishes include:

Russian Restaurant - Stroganoff

Beef Stroganoff

Tender beef cooked in a creamy sauce, served with noodles, rice, or buckwheat. A guest favorite for comfort food lovers.

Handmade Dumpling in Boise - Pelmeni

Pelmeni

Handmade dumplings simmered to perfection and finished with sour cream and dill. When Guy Fieri visited our restaurant in 2023, and ate our pelmeni he said “That’s the best thing I’ve had all year.”

Honey Cake

Honey Cake

A light, nutty dessert made with layers of honey-infused sponge and cream. It’s not too sweet and is an absolute favorite among our guests.

These dishes, along with Elena’s warmth, helped our Russian restaurant earn dozens of local awards including Best of Boise Ethnic Restaurant and Idaho’s Best European Restaurant.

We love our customers, and they love us!

Our guests truly make this place special. One recent review captured everything we hope people experience when they walk through our doors:

“Absolutely delicious! I had the pleasure of bringing home food from Alyonka Russian Cuisine and was blown away by the flavors and quality. The Beef Stroganoff was creamy and rich. Classic comfort food done right. The Chebureki was… incredibly flavorful, and the Honey Cake was light and satisfying.

The real standout was the Pavlova, perfectly crisp on the outside, soft inside, and truly superb. I also tried Alyonka’s Favorite Assorted Desserts, a heavenly sampler that offered a taste of everything sweet and wonderful.

This place is a gem. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic, satisfying Russian cuisine! I shared a tiny bit of the Stroganoff with my dog, Richard, and he gave it 5 paw prints!”

Honoring six years with a sweet thank-you

Our anniversaries are meaningful milestones for our entire team. Six years ago, we opened a small, bright restaurant with a tiny kitchen and a big dream. Today, guests visit from across the Treasure Valley (and bring their friends from out of town!) for dishes made from scratch and served with love.

To celebrate, we’re offering a complimentary slice of Honey Cake and Royal Poppy Seed Chocolate Ganache Cake to everyone who dines with us from November 28–30, 2025.

For Elena, desserts like these are tied to childhood memories, holidays, and the joy of gathering at the table. Sharing them with you feels like sharing a piece of home.

We’d love to celebrate with you. Whether you’re joining us for Beef Stroganoff, Pelmeni, or a warm cup of Russian black tea, you’ll be welcomed just as warmly as the day we opened.
